An offering set on the staircase in the Batu Caves near Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The bold yellow of the carnations stands out against the cool blue shadows of the caves

(cross-posted to sumire_no_hana

So, I suppose I should come back from my unexpected hiatus. If you don't know, sometimes I go through these rather antisocial stints where I appear to simply disappear.

Honestly, I have been trying to read the journals of all of you awesome people. Because I don't post or comment doesn't mean I don't care!

Once upon a time, when I posted regularly and had a large number of friends who weren't at all interested in Takarazuka, I created my Takarazuka fandom journal (sumire_no_hana. I think it's time to merge my largely-abandoned "real life" journal and my "fandom" journal together again.

As the largest number of friends I interact with personally are friends on sumire_no_hana, I've decided that I'll adopt that as my primary journal. I won't be deleting zephyrsky. It'll stay right where it is, and I will likely check it from time to time and receive email alerts from it. However, for the most part I won't be signing in.

So, those of you who are only friends on zephyrsky, you're cordially invited to friend sumire_no_hana.

Those of you who are friends on sumire_no_hana and have no interest in my non-fandom life, I appologize. Once I get things settled, I may see about setting up filters if I post too heavily about one thing or another.

Right now I have a parakeet happily prancing around on my hands as I type, occasionally pecking at a key (right now, she just turned up the brightness on my display ^_~).

It was an exciting day for my Inko-chan <3 She tends to fly around the apartment normally and will even sit on your shoulder and not budge, even if you walk out onto the balcony. Julie had her out of the cage while I was at work (I tend to have the cage open when I'm home). She went out to bring in laundry and the wind - which was a bit strong today - blew something and startled Inko-chan. Spooked, she flew out the window.

I read Julie's journal entry, afterwards mailing her and insisting it's alright and not to worry or panic. Parakeets tend not to stray very far from home and Inko-chan can't do long stints of flying. She's not built for long-distance flight and after about 5 or 6 circuits of my room, she tends to be exhausted.

Eventually, she settled in the tall cedar trees across the parking spaces and behind the trash cages on the other side of my building. Julie found her because you could hear Inko-chan's very distincive chirp coming from the trees.

I wound up taking 2 hours leave from work and coming home early to try to catch her. I know that she can't see well in the dark and if I waited until my normal finish time, the sun would be setting by the time I got home. I was also a bit concerned since there are a bunch of crows that chill in that area and they're one of the parakeets natural predators.

Armed with my trusty opera glasses (Thank you, Takarazuka fandom!) I hopped the fence and ventured into the mosquito-infested woods. I spotted her at the top of tree and from the way she was prancing around, I am pretty sure she could see me but the branches were too dense for her to fly down. Julie helped me spot her a few times as she moved around when the wind would shake her tree.

I grabbed her bell from the cage and started ringing it, trying to find a clear route for Inko-chan to make her way down to me. She finally started hopping down the opposite way and landed on my arm <3 <3 <3 I was so afraid to move too quickly, lest I startle her off.

Julie and I safely put her back in her cage, exhausted and dirty but safe <3 She seems to be a bit skittish and a bit more quick to take flight at the moment, but can you blame her? Awww, now she's sitting on my shoulder, preening me <3 <3

I'm keeping an eye on her in case she ate anything strange while she was loose.... but hey, all's well that ends well.
